Emergency Services

Junior Infants are having a wonderful time learning all about the Emergency Services through engaging, hands-on play.

At their role play station, the children step into the shoes of Gardaí, answering phones, taking notes, and helping each other solve pretend emergencies in their very own Garda station.

In the construction area, they use blocks and stickle bricks to build important structures like hospitals, fire stations, and rescue vehicles.

Their creativity shines in the arts and crafts station where they design and decorate their own colourful fire engines. Over at the small world area, the children immerse themselves in imaginative play at the fire station, using toy figures and vehicles to act out exciting rescue missions.

To tie it all together, they are also exploring fun, educational games on the iPads that teach them more about the roles and responsibilities of emergency workers.

Planting Cress

Junior Infants have been learning all about how plants grow. As part of their lesson, each child planted their own cress seeds in small individual pots. They carefully added soil, sprinkled the tiny seeds, and gave them a gentle watering. Over the next few weeks, the children will monitor their plants each day, observing how the seeds begin to sprout and grow. This hands-on activity helps them understand the life cycle of a plant and the importance of sunlight, water, and care in helping plants to thrive. The excitement is building as they wait to see whose cress will grow the fastest!

Senses

Junior Infants have been exploring their senses, focusing this week on the sense of taste. As part of their learning, they had the opportunity to observe and try a variety of foods representing the four main tastes: sweet, salty, bitter, and sour. The children were excited to sample different items such as jelly tots for sweet, popcorn for salty, natural yoghurt for sour, and lemon for bitter. They discussed how each food made them feel and described the different flavours, helping to build their vocabulary and understanding of how taste works. It was a fun and engaging way to learn more about their senses through hands-on experience.

Lots of Socks Day

Our Junior Infant class had a fantastic time celebrating World Down Syndrome Day 2025 with the Lots of Socks campaign! The children proudly wore their brightest, mismatched socks to show their support for inclusion and diversity. We had a fun-filled day learning about kindness, friendship, and the importance of embracing differences.

Seachtain na Gaeilge activities in Junior Infants

Junior Infants had a fantastic time celebrating Seachtain na Gaeilge and St. Patrick’s Day with a variety of fun activities. They enjoyed learning Irish songs and simple phrases, taking part in lively céilí dances, and creating beautiful shamrock and rainbow art. The children also listened to traditional Irish stories, played games and dressed in green for a special St. Patrick’s Day ceolchoirm. It was a joyful week filled with music, laughter, and plenty of Irish culture, helping them develop a love for the language and traditions of Ireland.
